B. was trained in the Braunschweig lacquer manufactory Stobwasser 1817-23, followed by studies at the Munich academy until 1828, among others under P. Cornelius. After travelling Tyrolia a. Italy he became professor in Brunswick in 1835. In 1860 he frescoed parts of the Brunswick Dom. - Mus.: Munich (Neue Pinakothek), Hamburg (Kunsthalle), Brunswick, Hannover. - Lit.: Saur, Thieme-Becker.
