Oil/canvas, 56 x 47 cm, up. le. sign. F. Hegenbart, on the reverse sign. again. - Austrian-German painter, draughtsman a. graphic artist. Like his father he became musician before studying at the Prague academy since 1886. In 1888 he moved to Munich, later he became a student of the Städel school in Frankfurt. The duke of Hassia provided him with a studio in Darmstadt in 1907, but in 1910 H. returned to his native town before settling definitely in Munich. He mainly worked as graphic artist - among others for 'Jugend', before turning to monumental paintings in 1910, that stand out among his oeuvre. - Mus.: Magdeburg. - Lit.: Thieme-Becker.
