Burkina Faso, West Africa. Wood, rich ornamental carving on both sides, traces of polychrome paint. A tall wing-shaped mask, in the centre an animal's head and a dentulous opening. Cracks. 33 x 157 cm. - The tall plank-shaped mask, known as 'nwantantay', are used in traditional rituals by the ethnic groups of 'Bwaba' or 'Nuna'. - Prov.: Prof. Finn Wilhelmsen (1939-2013).
