Tibet, 18th/19th cent. Distemper on cloth. Depiction of the historical buddha sitting in vajrasana upon a lotus throne. With his right hand his is performing the bhumisparsa mudra (gesture of touching the ground), in his left hand holding an alms bowl. His head and body adorned by several opulently decorated halos. The outer body nimbus ornamented with round reserves depicting scenes from the life of the buddha. The elaborately ornamented throne is flanked by two bodhisattvas in front of whom a group of monks attended by two other deities is showing reverence to Shakyamuni. Framed with different layers of silk. Small traces of age. 88 x 65 cm.
