Nancy, around 1890. Beige earthenware, overflowing glaze in beige and brown colours. Owl-shaped jug, the eyes with gold foil. Missing glass pupils. On the bottom sign. in brown 'E' 'lothringer cross' 'G' 'Nancy'. H. 10,5 cm. - In the tradition of popular funny vessels Gallé created around 1880/90 several zoomorphic vessels. - Literature: Comp.: B. Hakenjos, Emile Gallé, München 2012, Bd.II, cat.no. 50-57. - One of the most famous glass artists of the French Art Nouveau. Many designs of ceramic, glass and furniture in the style of historicism and art nouveau. Studied in Weimar and Meisenthal, staied in London and Paris, the first successes at the World Exhibition in Paris in 1878. - Mus: represented in leading art museums in the world. - Lit: B.
