M. studied at the Moscow academy 1861-65 a. joined the artist's group Peredwischniki in 1873. From 1882 to 1884 he lectured at the Moscow academy, since 1892 also at the St. Petersburg academy. He exhibited regularly among others in Vienna a. Berlin.
