L. studied at the Dresden academy 1840-43 as student of Ludwig Richter, thereafter he worked in the Alps for three years. As a result of the failed uprising in 1848 he moved to the US in 1850 a. set up a farm in Texas. Later he had a photo studio a. a painting school in Austin.
