Tibet, around 1900. Tempera on cotton, framed by brocade. In the centre the historical Shakyamuni on a lotos throne, with alms bowl amd the gesture of 'dhyana mudra'. The thangka also shows the most important occurrencies of Shakyamuni's life, for example his mother's dream of a white elefant who touches her with his trunk and makes her pregnant, also his life at the court, Mara's attack and finally Buddha's entrance to Nirvana. Traces of age. 78 x 56 cm, 137 x 83 (with brocade frame).
