As early as 1903 he joined the Hamburgischer Künstlerclub. In 1906 he had a studio in Berlin, in the following year he went to Paris with F. Ahlers-Hestermann u. F. Nölken where he joined circle of artists of the Café du Dome. 1909/10 he worked in the studio of H. Matisse. He was killed in action in the Ukraine in 1916.
