WS 1922. - Provenance: Acquired from the artist by a great-aunt of the consignor; thence by descent. - German-Belgian painter, studied at the Brussels a. Ghent academies. Together with J. Ensor a. T. van Rysselberghe he was co-founder of the avantgardist artrist's group 'Les XX' in Brussels in 1883. After the German invasion of Belgium in 1914 he moved to Lake Constance. S. mainly painted landscapes in impressionist a. pointillist style.
