Oil/wood, 70,5 x 59,5 cm, lo. ri. sign. Dressler above artist's signet as well as fragment of date, probably 1926. - German figure, still life a. landscape painter of 'New Objectivity'. After being taught as lithographer D. studied 1906-13 at the Dresden a. Leipzig academies, among others under R. Müller. He settled in Berlin, joined the 'Novembergruppe' a. in 1924 also the Berlin secession. In 1928 he won the 'Großer Staatspreis' at the exhibition of the Berlin academy. With a scholarship of the Villa Massimo he lived in Rome for one year 1930/31. His lifetime achievement was honoured with a grand retrospective in Berlin in 1955.
