C. studied at the Montreal arts a. crafts school as well as under C. Hecker in New York. He moved to Europe a. studied 1891 at the Berlin academy, among others under F. Skarbina, therafter at the Académie Julian in Paris under J.-L. Gerome, in London a. Antwerp where he finally settled for almost twenty years. In 1916 he returned to Canada; in 1927 he became member of the Royal Canadian Academy.
