Carved wood with dark brown glaze, h. 93 cm, at lower right sign. 'FLATH'. Age-related cracks. - In a lively surface treatment the artist shows the topic of the 'visitation', the meeting of Mary and Elisabeth (Lucas 1,39-56). - German wooden sculptor, painter and draftsman. 1922 - 1924 apprenticeship by the ivory carver Karl Schneider, 1928 - 1930 education at the Kiel School of Art and Crafts, then at the Hamburg State School of Art. Since 1932 as a freelancer in Kiel and foundation of the art association Kiel. Numerous works in Hamburg. His extensive oeuvre contains more than 3000 sculptures and 40 retables.
