K. was initally taught by an engraver. 1836-44 he studied at the Copenhagen academy where he was awarded a medal as early as 1843. With a scholarship he was able to travel Italy 1850-52, but he kept continue clinging to the Danish landscape a. light. K. had many pupils, among them A. Ancher.
