Southeast Asia, 2nd half 19th cent. Silver, gilded inside. Cast and wrought relief friezes: Presentation of the different incarnations of the Hindu God Vishnu - as among others Ganesha (as an elephant), Krishna (as a fluteplayer), Matsya (as a fish), Kurma (as a turtle), Narasimha (as a lion); palmettes and lotus blossoms; goblet walling with scenes depicting the veneration and honor of Vishnu through offerings - the puja. Handles by stylized dragons. The lid-top created by the flute playing Krishna on a lotus blossom. H. 64 cm, dm. Inside 23 cm, dm. Foot 18,2 cm. Weight approx. 4375 g. - Provenance: According to the consigner and attached correspendance: Originally a gift from the King of Siam to the former library director Glässer of the state library Kassel.
