Italy, 19th cent. Nut wood, stained darkbrown, black. Splendid wedding chest with 2 smaller side doors and 1 hinged middle door, inside 1 large compartment. Based on to kneeling fully plastic moor figures (1 repaired) on a pedestal. Rich frieze carvings of pearls, palmettes and of other decor. Artfully decorated middle door with carved figures: In the centre a grimace in cartouche with a ribbon and emblem in cartouche, left and right of it a flower garland and a strap holded by 2 figures - probably Adam and Eve - and 2 tritones and faunas, surrounded by 4 on a horn playing putti. Sides and side doors with carved grimaces in cartouche and framework. H. 134,5 cm, w. 206,5 cm, d. 59-71 cm. Traces of age and usage. Tension cracks. -
