Early 20th cent. Bronze with brown-black patina. Sign. to the ball 'J. Götz fec(it) Berlin', foundry mark 'OSCAR GLADENBECK'. Minor spotting to the patina, min. chipped. lH. 51 cm (figure), h. 2 cm (marble plinth). - German sculptor, went to Berlin after his education at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Nuremberg and became a scholar of Reinhold Begas. After studies in Rome he returned to Berlin and advanced to become one of the busiest sculptors under Emperor William II, who provided him with a large number of orders.
