Paris, around 1870, possibly designed by Louis-Constantin Sévin (1821-1888), from 1855-1888 higly talented chief designer at Barbedienne's who was responsable for numerous designs in historicism and eclecticism style. Polychrome enamel, fire gilt bronze. Finest arabasque decor. Four high feet in griffon in Egyptian style, pine cone finial. At the bottom side sign. 'F. BARBEDIENNE'. H.14,5 cm, w. 21,5 cm. - Maison Barbedienne was founded in 1834 by Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892) and was one of the most important companies of art bronzes in the 19th cent. in France, the most eminent sculptors of 19th cent. in its day were under contract there.
