Paris, around 1870, possibly designed by Louis-Constantin Sévin (1821-1888). Polychrome cloisonné enamel, fire gilt bronze. Elegant pair of trumpet-shaped vases with fine arabesque decor, gilt bronze mount with 4 pawn feet and handles in shape of heads of griffins in Egyptean style. Sign. 'F. BARBEDIENNE' to the upper rim. Metal vase inset. H. 23 cm. - Maison Barbedienne was founded in 1834 by Ferdinand Barbedienne (1810-1892) and was one of the most important companies of art bronzes in the 19th cent. in France, the most eminent sculptors of 19th cent. in its day were under contract there.
