Oil/wood, 27 x 21,5 cm, up. le. sign. Gust. Colin. - Provenance: Collection Conte Armand Doria; Maier Fine Art, Stuttgart; private collection Hamburg. - French painter of the school of Barbizon and impressionism. C. began studying in Arras in 1847 and continued his studies 1853 in the studio of Th. Couture in Paris. Together with Dutilleux he worked in Barbizon. Later he settled in the Pyrenees and began to paint subjets from the Basque region and Spain. Not admitted to the Salon in 1863 he exhibited at the Salon des Refusés, like so many other artists later recognised as avantgarde. Zola and Gautier praised, the Comte Doria became his patron.
