Kassák, on the stretcher fragment of a label, possibly of the Magyar Nemzeti Galéria at the former location at Kossuth Lajos tér. - Since the early 50s the artist repeated subjects from the 20s. The painting at hand is one of them. - Provenance: Auction house Ketterer Munich, auction 220, 25. May 1998, lot no. 319; collection the artist Walter Dexel; now from his estate. - Hungarian painter and writer. After apprenticeship as locksmith K. lived in Paris 1907-10 where he met among others Picasso, Delaunay and Apollinaire. He edited avantgardist magazines in Budapest since 1912 where artists like Archipenko, Schwitters, Schlemmer and Moholy-Nagy published. In 1921 he began constructivist painting.
