Painter of the New Leipzig School. K. was active in Leipzig's musical culture before completing an apprenticeship as an offset printer. He was introduced to painting in the mid-1980s by a colleague at the print shop, but it was only after reunification that he studied from 1992 to 2000 at the Leipzig Academy of Visual Arts under Neo Rauch and Arno Rink, ultimately as his master student. He has had solo exhibitions not only in Germany, but also in New York and China. K. often paints his pictures based on elaborate, self-constructed stage sets, which is why he only creates very few works, and only one at a time. K. also paints his pictures with old-masterly care and slowness. In the tradition of the Leipzig School, the tension between the seemingly obvious and the unexpected is fascinating in his paintings, creating a space of possible interpretations.
