Werner Scholz (Berlin 1898 - Alpbach/Tirol 1982) - Sell & Buy
German painter. S. studied at the Hochschule für Bildende Künste in Berlin from 1916-21, interrupted by military service in France, which cost him his left arm. Stylistically, his paintings show clear echoes of Nolde and the Brücke, but also connect to the socially critical themes of Grosz and Dix. Exposed to the harassment of the 'Third Reich', he withdrew to Tyrol in 1939. All the works in his Berlin studio were lost in 1944.
