Since 1861 he studied at the Düsseldorf academy under S. Jacobsen and A. Flamm. He travelled widely through Europe but found his motivs mainly in the Düsseldorf environments. M. won numerous international awards, became Swedish court painter and member of the Stockholm, Kopenhagen and Amsterdam academies. Mus.: Berlin (Nat. Gall.), Oslo (Nat. Gall.), Stockholm (Nat.
