Engel, on the reverse titled, dat. 1894 as well as sign. again, on the frame Berlin adress of the artist as well as two exhibition labels of the Nissenhaus Husum, relined. - Vaccinations against many dreaded diseases have been one of the great medical breakthroughs since the end of the 18th century. Because vaccination against smallpox was compulsory in many European countries until well into the 20th century, this disease is eradicated today. Otto Heinrich Engel shows a crowd of mothers with their children in the hallway of a doctor's office. From both sides, perhaps from the treatment rooms, the sunlight shines on the colorfully dressed group and shows the event as an occasion of joy and confidence. - Exhibition: The painting was exhibited: Städtisches Museum Flensburg/Nissenhaus Husum 1990; Städtisches Museum Flensburg 1966, cat. no. 37. - Literature: WVZ: Wodicka HV 445; WVZ Müller Nr. 44. - Provenance: Acquired from the artist's estate at his family in 1982; private collection Schleswig-Holstein, North Germany. - Plein air painter and graphic artist, student of W.
