1983. Aquatint in colours. 49 x 64,5 cm. Lo. ri. autographed Schumacher, lo. le. num. 28/150, framed under glass, uninspected out of frame. - One of the most important German representatives of informal art. S. studied 1932-35 at the Dortmund School of Arts and Crafts under Herricht and Guggenberger. Since he was prevented from practicing his profession in the 'Third Reich', he worked as a technical draftsman. His participation in the Documenta in 1955 and the Venice Biennale in 1961 brought him his international breakthrough. He subsequently received numerous awards and held several professorships. In 2009, the Emil Schumacher Museum was opened in Hagen. S.'s mature art is consistently non-objective and achieves its expressiveness solely through the effect of color and form.
