1915. Öl/canvas. 95,5 x 94,5 cm. Lo. ri. monogr. and dat. WH 12.I.15, on the reverse inscribed 489. Pin holes. - German-Czech universal artist. H. began his training at the Vienna School of Arts and Crafts, moving to the Prague Academy in 1906. Thanks to a scholarship arranged by F. Avenarius in Dresden, the artist was able to travel to Sylt in 1907 and settled in Itzehoe in 1908. His designs for 'crystal buildings' became groundbreaking for expressionist architecture and brought him into contact with W. Gropius, H. Scharoun and B. Taut, among others, in the artists' association 'Gläserne Kette'. Taut, among others. He also met K. Schmidt-Rottluff and U. Boccioni through his Berlin gallery owner H. Walden. In his often flat, ornamental paintings, H. attempted to express the elemental forces of the sea, mountains and cosmos. His designs for interior furnishings and textiles belong to the avant-garde of their time, and his importance is still repeatedly acknowledged in exhibitions today.
