Around 1982. Bronze, brown patinated. Figure: H. 75 cm, steel foot: H. 102 cm. Monogrammed MS, one of three copies. As a large sculpture in a public space in Kiel. The depiction of the unclothed young man sitting on a pedestal and playing the harp is reminiscent of the biblical figure of the shepherd boy David, who was supposed to cheer up King Saul, who was plagued by evil spirits, with his harp playing and eventually became king himself - German sculptor, studied art history, architecture and metal sculpture and was a student of Gerhard Marcks. Since 1958 Max Schegulla lived and worked as a sculptor in the Hanstedt district of Dierkshausen in the Nordheide. His diverse oeuvre includes numerous works in public spaces in Hamburg, Kiel, Bochum and Dortmund, winged altars, leaded glass windows and color prints.
