1977. Wood, varnished dark brown. H. 138 cm. Signed and dated GROSSKOPF 1977. Tension cracks, partially filled. A large phallic symbol that was considered a transmitter of cosmic and spiritual energy in the oldest cultures. The strong shaft and the bud-like top combine male and female elements and can also be seen as a budding, emerging plant. - Signs and myths as well as the exploration of often ambiguous sexual themes have played a central role in Klaus Grosskopf's archaic, symbolic visual language and have found expression in large-format works in public spaces. The present sculpture is a tribute to Grosskopf's lifelong muse Elke Bargheer, a niece of the painter Eduard Bargheer - Provenance: Private property, Sweden - German sculptor, studied in Berlin and Paris, moved to Wehningen and Strachau after reunification, primarily created larger-than-life sculptures in wood, bronze and stone, including in Morocco, Estonia, Egypt, Slovenia and Romania. He took part in numerous sculpture symposia, in 1997 he received the culture prize of the district of Lüneburg and in 2009 the Dr. Hedwig Meyn Prize of the Hanseatic City of Lüneburg.
