German painter. W. studied at the Stuttgart Academy under H. Trökes from 1962. He received several scholarships, including for the Villa Romana in Florence and the Villa Massimo in Rome. W. was a professor at several academies, most recently serving as rector of the Munich Academy. In 2022, the Albertina in Vienna honored the artist with a retrospective.
